Grade 3-5-This title features a full-color, glossy illustration of a combination animal/inanimate object (the carpsichord, caterputer, windshield viper, etc.) on each double-page spread, accompanied by a poem and definitions. It's an intriguing idea, but this book doesn't quite pull it off. The number of definitions per page (which often feature Lake Wobegonesque asides) detract from both poetry and pictures by their length and by their prominent placement on the page spread. Many puns, while clever, will have to be explained to younger readers, despite the explanations, and the idea of combining animals with objects might carry limited appeal for an older audience. For more child-friendly examples of poetry paired with computer-enhanced art, try J. Patrick Lewis's Doodle Dandies (Atheneum, 1998) or Kim Golding's Alphababies (DK Ink, 1998).

What in the world is an Imaginal? It's what happens when you combine a living animal with an inanimate object. Take a hippopotamus, for example. It's already a strange-looking beast, with its thick skin and wide mouth and tiny ears. Imagine what would happen if you combined the mighty hippo with . . . a teapot! Why, you'd end up with a Hippoteapotamus! A whole new kind of creature that could brew hot tea. There are plenty of other Imaginals in this creative collection of weird hybrids. Assembled by Ken Eichenbaum (the idea person) with verses by the gifted poet Wayne Arihood, and brilliant illustrations by artist Sher Schachameyer.

This book follows Tiger as he makes his professional golf career. Narby participates, along with two other no doubt interesting, but unknown to me, guys on the general topic of their experiences using ayahuasca and other hallucinogens.

These two conversations may be welcome memories for the participants, but they are not fit for a general audience. They dig deeply within and share their naked fears and memories. Obviously, some of the tools are outdated or replaced with better versions, but the concepts this book covers gave me a solid base from which to build my distributed system. In today's distressed economy, every firm is, perforce, a cost cutter. I'm a sixty five year old master gardener who has worked in the dirt most of my life. You really must read this one.. Some adults may find the discussion of Yuk’s nasal passages and their contents “gross”, but that factor held great appeal for my seven-year old grandson who found it hilarious.
