The fact that this book was based on actual history made it all the more fascinating and the author's notes at the end were a plus. Several chapters covers the principles quite nicely as well as examples with diagrams. The treatment of library science topics, while less rigorous, is present and credible.

Unlike the standard textbooks in the area (ex: Shortliffe) it is not an edited volume; rather, it hangs together page after page as a single work by a single author. Reading this book is like walking through a museum. Great Transcriptions. I tried to find out information on this topic only to get blank stares and confused looks. It seems that only a sort of anti-Jansenist prejudice could have blinded someone from giving a just account of the important spiritual affiliation and collaboration of Berulle with his close friend Saint-Cyran (Jean Duvergier), the founder of French Jansenism..
