The authors offer more examples, more figures and many new problems. Two parallel sets of problems end each chapter. Begins by demonstrating the power and limits of thermodynamics with a more systematic treatment of the second law and more focus on entrophy. Section Two deals with the description of molecular properties and spectroscopy utilizing quantum mechanical ideas. Introduced early--eigenvectors, eigenvalues and linear operators appear throughout. Section Three, dealing with statistical mechanics and kinetics, has been completely revised in a clear and interesting way. The final section, Macroscopic and Microscopic Structures, provides two new chapters on macromolecules and surface dynamics, emphasizing the application of SI units and the use of seven base units to represent all physical quantities.
Ever since Physical Chemistry was first published in 1913 (then titled Outlines of Theoretical Chemistry, by Frederick Getman), it has remained a highly effective and relevant learning tool thanks to the efforts of physical chemists from all over the world. Each new edition has benefited from their suggestions and expert advice. The result of this remarkable tradition is now in your hands. Now revised and updated, this Fourth Edition of Physical Chemistry by Silbey, Alberty, and Bawendi continues to present exceptionally clear explanations of concepts and methods. The basic theory of chemistry is presented from the viewpoint of academic physical chemists, but detailed discussions of practical applications are integrated throughout. The problems in the book also skillfully blend theory and applications.Highlights of the Fourth Edition:
- A total of 170 computer problems appropriate for MATHEMATICATM, MATHCADTM, MATLABTM, or MAPLETM.
- Increas
Pick this book up. This provided more pieces to a bit of family history (Stephen Hopkins and the wreck of the Sea Venture). Very happy to have found this.. Everything James Alison writes has enabled me to see what Jesus is up to in a new refreshing and challenging way. Oh and lest I forget, Brook does steamy very well. It invites to us to rethink the usual view of death. You are getting better and better.. Much to my delight, when I actually "dug in" I discovered an original, candid and insightful discussion of US-Russian collaboration and of the author's experiences on Mir. And I love having it on my Kindle.. It is a smorgasbord of data about dietary supplements. I have a BS and MS in horticulture and teach it at a community college in California. It is also required for the understanding of the relationship between the Volterra and Wiener filter models.
The following chapters of the book develop several algorithms first for Volterra models and later for Wiener models of no
