The blend of Mirk's openness with the "good insights, practical advice, and admissions of honest mistakes" in the book's interviews engaged me in a way that slipped right past my defenses. And I wish the book looked closer at where taking these less common routes made it harder or easier to build feminist relationships.
There's so much this book didn't cover, but that's not really a flaw. It's brilliant, but I'm biased.. The families of deployed personnel are not ignored - the section concludes with a chapter that discusses the impact of deployment on those left behind. Linenger's book not only entertains, it increases our understanding of people in exotic and stressful environments. A much better book is the Pilates Workbook for Pregnancy by King. I especially liked the detailed discussion of hiring practices. I am on the third book and cannot wait to get started. It is filled with excellent practical advice. Interesting characters and plot!.
